If you want to put off the daily weed-pulling and turnip-watering routine, go on a walking tour of your town’s landmarks and businesses, starting with Nook’s Cranny and all it has to offer.
Nook’s Cranny
Tom Nook is your number one source for purchasing and selling items. The more business you do with Tom Nook, the bigger his shop will get, and the larger and more diverse the selection will be. His inventory changes all the time, so check every day for new items.
Nook’s Shop Upgrades
Nook’s Cranny
Nook’s Cranny will start out as a quaint general store with a small selection of items. He will be eager for your business, because the more you spend, the sooner he can expand.
Nook ‘n Go
Once you have spent 25,000 bells at Nook’s Cranny, he will close the shop for a day to upgrade to a larger store with a bigger selection of items, similar to a convenience store.
Nookway
By the time you have spent 90,000 bells with Tom Nook, he will close his doors again for the day. The next upgrade will bring even more items and a better selection. The store edges toward the superstore category with the expansion to Nookway.
Nookington’s
The final expansion will require someone who is visiting your town wirelessly to buy at least one item – this, along with your having purchased a whopping 240,000 bells of merchandise will cement the popularity of Tom Nook’s business and allow him to make the final move into the high-profile and prestigious world of department stores. The new store will feature the best selection of items spread over two floors. There is even a barber shop run by Harriet inside the department store.
Shopping for Items
Walk up to an item and face it. Double tap it with your stylus or press the A button. Tom Nook will describe the item and let you know the price. For wallpaper and flooring he will let you see what it looks like. Some items, like seed bags and saplings, notes in a bottle, and paint, can be purchased only at Nook’s Cranny. Once sold, most items will be out of stock for at least a day.
Tom Nook’s Point System
You will see a machine that looks like an ATM in Nook’s Cranny – this is the Point-Tracking Machine or PTM. You will get a point for every 100 bells you spend and on certain days you will receive five points instead. The more points you earn, the higher your store membership status will become, which will get you store discounts and help you earn prizes for hitting milestones.
Selling Your Items
Tom Nook will gladly purchase almost anything you have. However, he will pay only a fraction of what he would sell it for. Tell him that you want to sell, then move the items to the top part of the screen. He will give you a price quote that you can decide to accept or reject.
Turnip Prices
Tom Nook will buy turnips from you. The prices are always fluctuating, but you can ask Tom Nook for the going rate on any day except Sunday to make sure you get the best deal.
